Therapeutic Techniques Used
|
Outline of Treatment approach: My approach is to help clients know that their feelings are normal given their experiences, their family background and who they are. By discovering this clients then begin to see that they are not going mad and there may be help. Psychoeducation and supportive therapy are used throughout along with specific techniques. My personality is to work with the clients in a warm and genuine way, both of us working as a team toward an improvement. I have been working with clients in private practice since 1999 and have seen more that 500 clients and families. I began working with traumatised children in 1994 and now work with adults adolescents and families. My work covers just about everything from complex problems to life crises. Anxiety and panic are common problems in my work and are generally amenable to treatment. The goal for most people is to manage their reactions to events and people while others want to live a life where they are less bothered by on-going tension. I work very closely to a CBT model but include a number of relaxation techniques where indicated. I am a very active therapist and where, appropriate, engage clients in role play and techniques that do not require discussion. I am also a hypnotherapist and find this a very useful tool. I have had a lot of success in self esteem building. I am able to identify small things that have not been noticed by the client and develop greater awareness of themselves as a capable and unique person of real worth. I see this as fundamental to working with clients suffering from anxiety disorders.
