Outline of Treatment approach:

Jan Seeley is a registered Psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society with a Master of Counselling (Psychology). For over 18 years she has provided counselling for most personal and relationship concerns. Jan has a particular interest and expertise working with anxiety issues and has provided extensive individual and group counselling in this area. She offers a general counselling service and she has particular expertise working with:

  • Depression
  • Family Violence
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Childhood and Adult Trauma
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Adoption Issues

Jan states that:

Underpinning my counselling is a belief in the uniqueness of each person and their experience and also in the human capacity for growth and development. My approach is respectful and accepting. I see counselling as a collaborative process in which people are both encouraged and challenged to develop ne and creative ways of dealing with life issues.

My approach to counselling incorporates a range of therapeutic perspectives. In particular, I draw on cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), narrative and solutions-focused therapies, and existential, systemic and humanistic therapies. When working with issues of anxiety, I work from a CBT approach to address the physical symptoms and the thinking that promotes anxiety, and also from a developmental perspective exploring the history of anxiety in an individual's life and to assess if there are unresolved issues contributing to the experience of anxiety that may need to be addressed.
