Jan states that: Underpinning my counselling is a belief in the uniqueness of each person and their experience and also in the human capacity for growth and development. My approach is respectful and accepting. I see counselling as a collaborative process in which people are both encouraged and challenged to develop ne and creative ways of dealing with life issues. My approach to counselling incorporates a range of therapeutic perspectives. In particular, I draw on cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), narrative and solutions-focused therapies, and existential, systemic and humanistic therapies. When working with issues of anxiety, I work from a CBT approach to address the physical symptoms and the thinking that promotes anxiety, and also from a developmental perspective exploring the history of anxiety in an individual's life and to assess if there are unresolved issues contributing to the experience of anxiety that may need to be addressed.
