Therapeutic Techniques Used

Outline of Treatment approach: AREA OF SPECIALISATION: I offer psychological services to adults, adolescents and children. My work has covered a broad range of issues, including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, performance anxiety, panic, grief, trauma/terrorism, depression, relationship issues, personal development and self esteem. I have also worked extensively with school-age students on anxiety/separation, learning and developmental issues. THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES: My approach to therapy is eclectic, enabling me to draw upon techniques best suited to each client and their specific needs. This approach draws upon several well-known therapies, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, hypnosis, emotional freedom techniques (EFT), rational discussion and solution-focused therapy. I also focus on education and information to enhance the client's understanding of their situation and to foster empowerment. In dealing with any issue, I believe it is important to focus on the individual as a whole - integrating intellectual, physical, social and emotional domains. GETTING STARTED - WHAT TO EXPECT Therapy begins with a detailed assessment, which takes the form of a discussion. From here, a program outline and goals can be formulated. Tasks are usually set in each session to enable and encourage on-going work between appointments. Therapy is usually short-term, but requires commitment and dedication from the client to work towards their goals.
