I specialise in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and depression in children and adolescents.
My previous work in the public health system was working with a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service where I was a psychologist with the School Refusal Program, treating young people who were reluctant or refusing to attend school due to severe anxiety and depression.
In my private practice located at Parkville I now work with young people with similar problems, like generalized anxiety and problems going to kindergarten or school, social anxiety, phobias, and depression. I also see children and adolescents who have witnessed trauma or who are having difficulties adjusting to change in their family life, including loss and grief issues.
The rooms at Parkville are comfortable and welcoming, and provide a relaxed space for young people to explore new skills and strategies to enable them to feel more confident and able to cope with life. Together, we look at how they view themselves and others, how they interpret and respond to situations, and what maintains their distress. We work out ways to change behaviour and unhelpful thoughts, and learn to deal more effectively with problems. I work collaboratively with parents wherever possible, providing space for parents to talk about how they are coping with their child's difficulties, and for us to plan helpful strategies to use at home.
